To ensure that maximum value is derived from each and every individual fish, it is absolutely necessary to attract labour from other settlements and towns, from other regions, and even sometimes from other parts of the world, especially during the high season. However, it is not and must not be the only solution. As a large company, we have a shared responsibility for ensuring that our employees and po- tential employees, and the children and young people who may one day come to work for us, are trained to a level that ensures that as many of the skills we need are available locally – not just today, in 2017, but also five, ten and 20 years hence. This issue of Navigatio contains a number of articles about employee training and development. I hope that you find them just as interesting and important as I do.
